Who else? The Alibi Room and Unexpected Productions

Post Alley Film Festival also shares festival festivities with our friends at the Alibi Room and has since the festival’s inception. The Alibi Room (Seattle and Vancouver) is owned by a group of filmmakers and celebs who support independent film. The festival schedules breaks in between segments so that festivalgoers may take advantage of this cool hideaway.

Down the stairs tucked under Pike Place Market, the Alibi Room is a haven for artists, particularly screenwriters. Independent movie-industry-bees, wanna-bees, soon-to-bees and been-there-done-thats congregate during the week. Almost every other Monday, a script read-through takes place here or in the Market Theater. The back-alley setting gives the Alibi Room an atmospheric, speakeasy feel; famous people really do show up, and it’s a favorite during the Seattle International Film Festival. One can actually find quiet solace during the day to sip a glass of Muscat, read, write or peruse the dozens of screenplays available here.

The Alibi Room could easily be dismissed as a place strictly for drinks: double martinis at the wood-paneled bar and a good wine selection; however, it’s a popular dinner spot -  first-catch Halibut or Ahi - morel risotto with asparagus - red beans and rice for lunch, turkey-Brie sandwich with cranberry relish, vegetarian lasagna, stuffed ravioli and the ever favorite hot pink mashed potatoes! With drinks: sun-dried tomato hummus plate or the baked chevre with pears. Remember, Pike Place Market, with all its fabulous fish and fresh produce, is right upstairs. Late night and weekends also provide sometimes-live music or rotating DJs who mix on the dance floor downstairs.

It’s a great place to congregate after Post Alley Film Festival.

The Alibi Room is located at 85 Post Alley, or 85 Pike Street, take your pick, Seattle, WA, and their phone number is 206/623-3180.

*Alibi info kluged together from frommers, fodors, Seattle weekly, kirotv, pubcrawler, and vbb.

Unexpected Productions took over in 1991. UP is Seattle’s first improv company and runs one of the largest improv schools in the US. It is also home of Seattle Theatresports™ and is the northwest hub for improv since 1983. It entertains local audiences, tours internationally and hosts the Seattle International Improv Festival. The Theater is also the venue for evening script-readings by local screenwriters; our friends at Unexpected Productions provide the venue for Post Alley Film Festival in the Market Theater.
