Bering Sea Memoirs is an icy look at the challenging lives of independent fisherman in snow-covered Dutch Harbor, the hub of the Bering Sea fishing industry. This film is a personal portrait of fishermen, their work and the old ethic that defines their lives. Shot on color DV and Super 8 mm black and white, filmmaker Stefani Smith’s narration offers brief reflection and insight into their struggles and passions. Stefani is an accomplished filmmaker who has also worked as a videographer/editor for the Field Museum of Chicago, has created a cooking show pilot and has acted as a guest artist for incarcerated women at the Stockton Women’s Correctional Facility.
